Cruisers Going Ashore in the Bahamas
Warning from a fellow cruiser:
To ALL CRUISERS TRANSITING The Bahamas:
It has been reported from permanent residents in Eleuthera (including Spanish Wells) that the police have been contacting residents and asking them to report to the police any cruisers leaving their boats for shore. It might be a good idea to contact the authorities before going ashore even if you have prior approval.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Please let us know of any specific details you may have of incidents of this nature. We don’t know what other islands or communities may be applying this practice. We have not been able to find any information on an apparent announcement from the Prime Minister on April 1, 2020.
